Default Stall Converters

What exactly is a stall converter and what does it do? I read about alot fo GM owners having them. just wondering

you know how you can hit the brake and the gas in auto tranny. the revs go up but the car doesn't move? a stall converter lets the revs go up higher before the car starts to move. IE better launch

we're putting a level 10 converter in my friends car this weekend.. I'll post up how that goes.

I was about to get a Yank 3800SS for the vette... until I found out the dealership wants $800 to install it because they would have to drop the transmission. I know it's a lot cheaper for F bodys.

Yea, I think to install the converter, cooler, and shift kit, it will run my around $400, which isnt that bad. I'm sure not gonna try to install this thing! I got a great deal on a TCI Competition 3800 so I jumped on it.
