Long story short, studs will not thread into the block. Only got one to thread in so I know its not a thread pitch(?) Issue.

Block is fresh back from the machine shop, brand new ARP studs, threads on block look good from what I can see, blah blah.

What am I doing wrong here.

Wrong size head studs is the only thing it really could be if the threads look good.

The one that I got to thread in is identical to the others though. And its a brand new ARP box that says Sr20det on it.

Who knw=ows, maybe they got that batch of studs mixed up wrong. I mean there's no way the machine shop could have done anything to it. They don't touch the head bolt holes.

If this is true, any of the studs should thread into the one hole that works. Why the other holes would not work is definitely a brain bender. This is confusing.

Got it. Had to tap them with a rubber mallet to make the threads line up... Maybe a small defect on the studs. Threaded in and tourqed fine.

probably had a burr on the block if it had been decked or anything..should have just used a tap and ran down them

Sounds like the studs don't have very much lead-in taper, which is good because they'll have a longer engaged thread area.

I alway recommend clearing the bolt holes out when you have the block worked on. Not only will shit get in there from having it decked, but even hot tanking will leave residue that fucks with torque specs. Finding a tap long enough is the shitty thing. What i've done in the past is take a spare head bolt, cut a vertical groove up a side tocatch shit and run it in each hole a few times. Usualy with carb or brake cleaner. The channel cut into the bolt's threads will catch the residue and shavings left behind

I was just gonna say this.

If you ran a tap down the holes it should have cleaned them up perfect.
