I recently bought a one piece steel driveshaft shop drive shaft for my Non ABS S14, and it just about 1/2" longer then the one that is currently installed on my car, thus not allowing me to install the current one. Question is, the ABS drive shaft is 1/2" shorter then the non abs one. I know that there is an obvious length difference between the two but i was wondering if there was any physical difference.

The length is the only difference. Sounds like you have the wrong one.

Even though you don't have ABS, it sounds like you have an ABS differential. The differential on the abs models have a slightly longer flange. so the ABS driveshaft should actually be shorter.


Are you sure that is the diff that came with the car from the factory NON-ABS or maybe someone swapped a ABS VLSD in?

Same thing happened to me.
had a 1piece non abs driveshaft made and installed it with no issues.____installed a vlsd from an abs model s14---Same driveshaft was suddenly too long and made a terrible metal whining sound. Got an ABS 1 piece driveshaft and it was slightly short if I remember right..
