rev and speed governor help for a 04 ford
i was curious, i only need the rev governor gone because the redline on my truck starts at 5000 but while in first gear it wont go past 4500 it will just sit there for a second. i was wondering if i had to buy any parts or if it was as easy as snipping a wire. i got a new flowmaster mufflers on it and i want to really hear it at rull rev, but of course ford puts a low ass governor on it.
the truck is a 2004 ford ranger 4.0 V6, its moving up in horsepw\ower slow but sure, on mustang dyno its putting down 242hp and 275tq, im hoping removing the governor will help it out. any help anybody can offer i would appreciate it...i would hate to go to a shop if its just a wire or chip i have to remove.
any comments would be much appreciated.

Re: rev and speed governor help for a 04 ford
i have the dyno sheet. the horsepower and torqe was achieved at 4250rpm the truck comes stock with 207hp and 238torqe, thats not to the wheels, why is it "fishy" i have a ecu chip which was extremely cheap off of ebay, like 30$, it actually works, and at the time it was straight piped(illegal) and cold air intake, and a turnado that goes in the air intake, saves gas and add hp and torqe. it was catless, but i have to drive it everyday now and i was pulled for the noise before.

so where did you gain 50whp, and almost 50 ftlbs??????? tornado doesnt add HP...and the lil "adds more fuel" chip from ebay..does nothing..lol..but you are telling us you gained 50whp and 50ft lbs....from no backpressure, and a restrictor plate. and a CEL?

Re: rev and speed governor help for a 04 ford
as i said above i want to push it past where im getting the most hp and torqe because i just want to hear it at higher rpm's. i gained 37tq and 35hp and the turbonado/tornado does add horsepower, air intake KandN has to add 7-10hp, and the ranger comes with five(5) catyalic converters and an extremly low flow exhaust. you can easily gain hp in any car by ripping off the cats/restrictors. but no body has tried to answer my initial question about getting rid of the rev governor.
Edit: It was tuned on the dyno.

Get the rev limit raised, don't get it removed. One missed shift and you're in big trouble. It's a Ford, you'll have valve float like crazy and those V6 engines just aren't meant for high RPM.

Re: rev and speed governor help for a 04 ford
The same software that made that chip you have should be able to change the rev limit. It's just another changeable parameter usually, just like the values in the fuel and ignition maps. Change that value, and you change the rev limit. I've never messed with Ford computers, but all ECUs are fundamentally the same the way they are programmed and tuned.
