400hp for $4000 isn't going to happen on a sr20 or at least not for very long. Why 400hp though? If you want to be different you could put a ca18det/s15 turbo in there and have plenty of fun for $4000. It's pretty much a mini rb25 and will give your sub 3000 pound car plenty of thrust.

gpeele has a good point. The CA18DET's are basically mini-RB motors. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the CA's have the same head design as the RB. CA's are starting to make a comeback since they're a bit cheaper than the SR and the RB. If the RB seems out of your league right now maybe you should consider selling it and buying a CA or even turboing the KA. Each motor has it's own pros and cons. You just need to research and see which one best suits your needs and, of course, your wallet. Plenty of info on all of the motors online. You can make 400hp with any motor you choose it just all depends on how much you REALLY want to spend. In the end it's your car so if you have to save up a little more so that you're happy, then do it. Good luck. Try looking at 240SXforums.com there's a ton of info on all the motors in there.
