0.20? That's almost a quarter of an inch..

One of the problems with shaving a head is that you're changing the combustion chamber shape, which can work OK if you have a deep combustion chamber (you're only lowering the height of the chamber walls) but most modern chambers don't have that much material to begin with. In that case you're changing part of the chamber geometry by shaving.

If you want to raise compression, get some different pistons. There are less compromises than head shaving, and it's reversible. You can't un-shave a shaved head.

you mean the cams will have to be indexed?

this can be offset by a thicker headgasket. If you are using the stock headgasket, as stated it will just raise the compression, which could be benificial depending on your application.

Is this a general question or related to a specific motor?

I hope you mean .020 and not .20

No head has this much meat to cut off and still be within factory spec, at least on a Japanese engine that i have encountered. brake out the calculator and start punching numbers in if you want to find out how much...pointless though IMO. not to mention that you did not inform us on what specific engine were talking about. No sense in even guessing.

Or are we talking bout shaving .2 mm?
