powdercoating, polishing lip of stock gsx rims
I know a lot of you guys painted your stock wheels. I always take my racing harts off in the winter when I am going to be in northern va and I dont like the finish on my stock wheels.
Anyway, I want to paint my stock gsx rims gunmetal and leave a polished lip. How do I polish the lip? is there any kind of compound to use? should I use my dremel polishing kit? How have you guys seen it done or done it?

The lip on our stock rims are actually a chrome type dip. If you mess with it or smack it against anything it will chip right off. Unless they changed the rims from 97-99, I know they changed the rims to a one piece rim in 2000 but not sure about 99. I would just paint them with a chrome paint and like they said tape it up good.

the chrome finish on my stock rims is worn off from the previous owner, so i want to repolish it. I may just let the car sit in the garage until feb, then I wont even have to worry about it. I still would like to know how its done though.

And if you want to clean up the masked edge after the rims are powdercoated, make a small, controllable sanding block out of wood or plastic and wrap with 600 or 800 grit wet/dry paper. Wet sand the edge where the powdercoat meets the lip carefully, and then polish the rest of the lip. Also, make sure to mask of the rest of the rim before polishing, because a few minutes of masking will save a lot of cleanup time when the polish gets slung all over....
