Default possible causes of a leak

i have a 96 civic hatch. everytime it rains, or i wash the car, i get water down in the spare tire area. i know its leaking from above, because the carpet above the cardboard piece, and the cardboard piece are wet. ive checked the gasket around the hatch, and ive also made sure everything (body panel wise) is even. anyone have any other ideas as to what could be causing that bastard of a leak?

i know alot of people that own hondas that have the same problem, including me. on my teg and my hatch i just ended up drilling 4 holes in the deepest part of the trunk. works perfect. never could find out exactly where it was coming in from though.

hope this helps

hit the nail on the head.

i normally dont look at the back of my car, but tonight, i discovered where my leak is coming from. when i turned my moms headlights on as i was leaving, i could see standing water inside my left rear taillight. as i chirped the alarm to make sure, it confirmed it. so, i guess i need to fix that taillight, or get new ones.

using a hose works well, but i have found that a smoke machine inside the car (or a friend taking power hits off the bong...) will show you where most of the leaks are...

and yeah, teh taillights have large tendencies to leak on the civics....they come in to work often with water so deep it blows the light bulbs out. i look for fishies...but none are there

(prolly gonna be a combination of taillight and gasket though.)
