I have a 95 honda civic Dx that has the stock d15b7 motor in it. My problem is that while the car is running it seems to hesitate and then pop, it does this the whole time the car is running. The timing was off by a tooth until earlier today, i figured that that could be the cause of the problem but after i fixed the timing issue it still pops. So my question is what could be the cause of this popping. If you need any further details feel free to ask i need and sugestions that could possibly help me have a sound running car again.

Before you start chasing shadows, make sure the ECU is reset. Disconnect the positive battery cable, and press the brake pedal for a few seconds. Or pull the ECU fuse and press the brake pedal, it'll work either way. There is probably some stored ignition trim parameters in the ECU that are still affecting things if it hasn't been reset yet.

Once you've done that, then check for other problems. I'm guessing that you have a MAP or TPS sensor problem. Popping and hesitation is usually an ignition problem, and is usually not caused by fouled plugs, fuel filter, etc. It sounds like those are working fine, although running like this could have fouled the plugs if it's been like this for a while.
Something is broken, etc., such as a sensor, and is causing the ECU to retard the ignition according to whatever false or corrupt signals(s) it's getting. This could be a position problem (Cam, crank, whatever position sensor) or TPS. I'm thinking TPS sensor; if the throttle position doesn't match what the rest of the sensors are saying, funny things happen. It's the same with the engine position sensors, but the ECU will usually pick up on problems with those.
There are other possibilities, but those are the usual suspects.

This could be a vacuum leak also, but I would tend to doubt it.



Moment of suspicious clarity: I'm wondering if someone had the timing off a tooth (like you said) and then tried to turn the distributor to compensate for the timing being off. So check that the distributor is in the right position.

and that doesnt mean line up the distributer with the bracket behing it. Use a timing light. Iv seen poeple check there timing by "feel". Ull be suprised what a 100th of a degree will do.
