Default Passat 1.8T no heat

I just bought my wife a 2001 Passat last week and the heat is not what it should be by any means, its just cold.

I flushed the system completely, flushed the heater core even to check for blockage, got a new T stat and still no heat.

All coolant lines are warm, ALL of them so the T stat opens and the engine stays around 190 when warm and operating.

When the twist knob is moved from Cold to Hot you can hear the audible change in the vents but still no heat

The heater core is clogged. you will have to replace it. I work at a vw delar and have seen a few of them. you can flush and back flush but the core is clogged. you will have to replace it.

.... not that i doubt your opinion b/c ive been on the phone with my VW buddy mech all day also but if coolant/water flows freely in both directions what exactly would you classify as clogged. Coolant comes in one line runs through core and out the other side making both lines hot so i don't understand what would be clogged.

He is looking at it next Saturday i'm just 300 miles away atm

your problem is that the plastic fins on your waterpump have broke off, which is a common problem for the 1.8t &2.0 motor.go to be dealer and get a new water pump, timing belt since your in there and you will fix your problem.

wow, did NO ONE think his blend door is broken? If his waterpump fins were broke off, then his car would be over heating, use your head.

He says the coolant lines are hot, so the cooling system obviously works.

You have either one of two remaining problems.
1. your core is clogged (which it still MIGHT be)
2. your heater blend door isn't moving, and is still stuck on A/C.

Blend door is the only thing i have not checked yet, water circulates fine or at least seems to be, my wife got fed up with the cold its going to vw tomorrow fore at least the diagnostics. im hoping for blend door actuator and not a magical heater core.

The T stat opens exactly at 190 and stays there, so im confident thus far its nothing in the coolant system to point towards lack of circulation/cooling.

dude, if you take it to VW, be prepared to buy a whole new heating and A/C system.

Check the blend door yourself.
