Parasitic Battery Drain
OK, so my 03 silverado has a parasitic battery drain and it's driving me f-ing mad. I've hooked a test light to it, removed every fuse, one by one. NOTHING. If I leave the truck sitting for about a week, the battery is dead. I've checked the alternator and bought a new battery. WTF?????????!!!!!!!!!! Any ideas?

crazy. i had a guy bring me his 04 ranger that was doing the same thing. for some reason when i pulled the fuse out for factory door locks, the battery would stay charged. put the fuse back in and the battery would drain when you locked the doors. he got him a new vehicle because of lemon law. he had a factory radio installed 3 times and each one went bad. i installed a nice jvc arsenal deck and he never had any problems. some vehicles just have gremlins

Re: Parasitic Battery Drain
a test light aint going to do shit. you need to see exactly what mA is being drawn, a rule of thumb is anything more than 500mA is gonna kill a battery.
that being said, i have had quite a few draw checks in the last few months, and every damn one of them was a nice weird one. none of this pattern failure bullshit, these all taxed those little cells in that gray matter behind the cranium.

what you said. ford had his car for 2 weeks and could not find it, but most parasitic problems ive encountered in the past always had something to do w/aftermarket or factory alarm problems, but i dont do this full time though.

Re: Parasitic Battery Drain
that is the nature of the beast for intermittent electrical issues under warranty. techs dont run tests cause they are not paid to (generally they are lucky to get .8 on something of this nature). with the pay setup they have for warranty flat rape, no wonder most OE's are in the financial situation they are in. lets see....pay someone what they are worth to fix a problem, or buy the car back? which is cheaper?
