oil pan bolt won't come off
i am trying to do a oil change, and the bolt won't come off. (i am going counterclockwise)
i've even tried to use a hammer to make it move, and it won't move.
i am really thinking about taking it to a shop for them to do it.
but what do you guys think? any suggestions so i don't have to spend $40 bucks on it?
please help.

Re: oil pan bolt won't come off
If using a wrench, do you know how to "double wrench" (lock 2 wrenches together to make it longer)? If using a 3/8 ratchet and socket, do you have a small piece of pipe to slide over the end of the ratchet handle? Or a breaker bar or 1/2" ratchet as stated above? All these methods use the same principle, you need a longer lever to apply more force. Before spending $40 at a shop, go buy yourself a quality 1/2" breaker bar and matching 6 point socket to fit your drain plug. Unless its welded on it should come off. If the tools cost $40 at least you will have them in the future

Wow, someone must have really overtightened that. Use a breaker bar and never ever tighten it anywhere close when you reinstall it. It's just a drain bolt; it only needs enough torque to seal properly and not loosen from vibration, and you should never need anything special to take it off..
