Default New Car. Too much play in the shifter..help

Just bought this car 2 days ago, after driving it i realized sometimes it was hard to get in 4th gear from 5th, but it wouldn't grind or anything at all. When its in gear, the shifter has alot of play in it. Now just drove home and it has way too much play in it, its so lose that when i make a turn the shift knob leans the way im turning..What could it be? This would be my first honda so i don't know much about em.

but i do love it so far

It's a 99 SI

Probably the bitch pin. Its the pin that connects the linkage to tranny. check that, the linkage bushings, and where the shifter connects to the linkage just to make sure.

well i took the middle console out, and im looking down in the shifter and i see a screw/bolt sticking out on the right side of the shifter it looks like. Is that normal? People at my job said i could do this from the top but i dont have any room at all. The car is reaaaaal low, am i going to have to fix this from the bottom?

Nope youre going to have to jack it up. Make sure everything underneath is tight and you're problem will be fixed.

That bolt is normal. It holds the shifter to the linkage. You will need to get up under the car to check where the linkage attaches to the tranny. If thats not it then you may want to try some poly shifter bushings.
