need help with temp gauge and gas guage

Default need help with temp gauge and gas guage

i just bought a 89 civic si and im having problems with the temp guage and gas guage. when i start the car up the temp guage shoots staight up to H and my gas guage does what ever it wants to it doesn't just up and down it just reads empty when i just filled it up and vice versa can any help me ? i dont know if a wire is crossed or a wire or wires aren't hooked up any help would greatly appreciated

possible problems on the temp gauge
1.bad thermostat
2.air in cooling system
3.very low on coolant

how do i check for coolant in the system? i changed the thrmostat two months ago. what about the gas guage is there a sensor where they both hook up besides the back of the guage cluster

There isn't a sensor but you could always pop off the cluster and make sure that the plug is in good. When I switched out my cluster my guages were acting weird because the plug was not plugged in securely.
