My car is sick
91' Talon Tsi AWD. Blows black smoke out the exhaust. It makes a weird bumblebee type noise at around 5000-5500 rpm. And sometimes when you first start it after sitting over night it will be boosting up to 14psi, or so the stock gague says. And lastly, I have no launch, at all. It will chirp tires then nose dive, or just nose dive when launching at lower rpm. Any help would be great.

Re: My car is sick
bumble bee type sound sounds like a exhaust leak... you got access to a datalogger? black smoke sounds like your O2 might be bad... hows your gas mileage? for your launch. rev it up to about 5k, bounce it between 4500 and 5k or 5k and 5500, or higher, you get the idea, but at least 4500, and slip the clutch.. after a couple launches of SLIPPING it you'll start to get a better feel for it, and you should learn how to launch it good

14 PSI when cold is normal for that car( or so I am told) Black smoke when it is running RICH. But if it is blowing black smoke when boosting it is normal. Bumble bee noise at 5,000 exhaust leak ( maybe turbo going bad )

Re: My car is sick
Does it smoke under boost, at idle, or what? Start with the normal tune-up items first and see if things improve (plugs, wires, clean fuel filter, clean air filter, O2 sensor check, etc). Don't trust anything the stock boost gauge tells you; you shouldn't even be looking at it. Get a real gauge. As for launching, practice makes perfect. Do as Dave suggests.
