Default mini me timing question?

I have a mini me in my 91 si and I'm trying to set the timing. The balancer marks are no where close to the mark on the timing cover. The tdc mark on the balancer lines up with the mark on the timing cover when i shine the timing light. But the motor runs fine. When I put my timing belt on I lined the crank mark up (tdc) and on the cam gear I put UP at 12:00, and the two side marks even with the head. So since I have a 93 z6 head I looked at a 92-95 civic haynes manual. The z6 cam gear when lined up looks one tooth forward and the two marks aren't quite even with the head. So just to try it I moved the belt one tooth on the cam gear and the timing marks lined up perfect. I took it for a spin and it was spark knocking like crazy. Is the mark on the timing cover of the 91 si in a different spot than the 92-95 timing cover? HELP

did you adjust the valves correctly? spark plug order correct? any power or not? buy a timing light to see where your timing is at.

then you are way off... tried adjust the dist? double check you timing belt placement, hopefully you didn't damage anything... get an adjustable timing light to see where you're currently at.

My civic is teal and I bought it from raliegh NC. I had the motor built and I put it in. The timing belt u are suppose to use is the 92-95 timing belt. My motor runs fine the way it is I just wanted to set my timing perfect with a light and the marks are not where they should be when I shine the light. If I adjust the distributor they still don't get close and it runs like shit. Just wanted to know if I use a 92-95 balancer or timing cover would it be any different?

dude line the timing belt back up like you had it the first time and then move the dizzy while using the timing light and it will make the mark like it is moving
