ls1 swap 86 Trans Am build
Well im new here to i thought id post up my project ive been working on. Ive had this car for 7 years it was my first car and will most likely be my last car but thats another story lol. i got the car it had a lg4/700r4/2.73 setup it was bone stock with 204k on it but 100% solid and all there. i drove it through high school till the 305 died then rebuilt it and ran it till the transmission went then more or less parked it and bought a 82 trans am i played with for a few years. now that i have my own house and a garage to work on it better i started doing my dream of a lsx swap.
the car originaly had carmine red interior but now swaping to all black. the powerplant is a 2001 5.3 from a silverado i swaped on a fbody intake oil pan and accesories to make it work in my application. i also got a good deal on the baby sized hotcam with springs so i threw it in. its tuned by tunedbyfrost.com right now im running a th350 transmission with redneck performance 9.5in 3500 converter with antiballoning plates till i can find a deal on a t56 swap. i swaped in a 3.73 rear with auburn posi new shocks/struts eibach sportlines tubular lcas a 145 speedo cluster its wired to have a/c work also.
We got it running a few weeks ago i need to finish the exhaust right now it just a 3in open y pipe ill be running a single 3in magnaflow with one tucked up tail on the driverside. i still have some other loose ends to finish like new inner tierods weld in my riversie floor pan and put all the interior back in and stick all my ground effects and bummpers/fenders back on. but anyway here i am and here are some pictures. enjoy

Re: ls1 swap 86 Trans Am build
Yes I agree t56 would be great but $$$ lol trying to get it together to enjoy a little bit of summer time. Its been in pieces for 3 and a half years so I've had to replace a bunch of other stuff in the process. Hope to get it in the 12s on street tires and mid low 12s on drs.

5.3 is not an LS1 just fyi, you got it right in your sig though.. But build looks good, those 5.3s are good motors. A t56 would definitely be more fun lol, gotta love bangin gears. Decide the floor jack wouldn't quite cut it so you broke out the engine hoist lol? Keep us posted man, you the only domestic thread in the first page I think.

Your right but its still a gen 3 engine the only major diffrences in a 5.3 and a true ls1 is the 5.3 is iron block and bore size is slightly smaller. Powerwise is not a big diff. A tun exhaust and intake bump the 5.3s 285 to 330 crank. Not like I'm gona say its a 5.3 swap most people don't know what it is hell most in my area don't know what an ls1 is lmao. Ill try to pull it outa the garage this weekend and get a idle rev video of it.

Oh the first picture I swaped out the whole k member a arms springs struts brakes and swaped the one I had from a 88 rs camaro I bought that had new brakes and suspension parts. Most swaps are done and the motor and trans is placed in from underneith anyway.
