Nah the LS/Vtec is actually a frankenstein motor. It has a LS block with a vtec head. IT makes more down low power and top end than a B18C1. ANd trust, tourque is good.

ls (B18A1/B18B1) with vtec head, gsr is B17A1 for the 92-93 integra and B18C1 for the 94+.....ls has a few more cc's even though they're both rated at 1.8, i can't remember the exact numbers but the type r and gsr are at 1796cc, and the ls is at 18__

ok, and now the information people dont know.

it will cost you way more to properly build an ls/vtec than to just buy a b18c1. if you want to do it right, you'll want to rebuild the motor with GOOD parts, which arent cheap. sleeve it, rods, pistons, rebuild the botom end, and if you want it to last you'll want a b17 crank. that helps improve the horrible R/S ratio it will have, and also lowers the displacement of the motor. i mean think about it....if you want to do an LS/vtec, you cant just slap the head on it and rev it to 8k. the bottom end CANT take it for long. it's like revving a stock car 1500-2k past it's stock redline. ls/vtecs normally make way more power than a b18c1 because they are built before they even go into the car....

if i was going to do a frankenstein motor i'd just do a b20 block w/ a b18 crank....because b17 cranks are like gold. almost impossible to find, and they're like 7-800 bux from the acura dealer.

crazychickenhead is an unknown quantity at this point

honda redlines are based on the valvetrain, not the bottom end.

get some used 89-91 jdm b16 PR3 pistons or some ITR's, cheap... new rings, new rod bearings, arp rod bolts, and a new headgasket, and oil/coolant...

poof you've got yourself a badass ITR/CTR killer for less than the GSR

you're right...bearings love taking a much higher load than they're designed to tolerate. the bottom end has absolutely nothing to do w/ redline. my bad.

the weakest link of a ls/vtec is the rod bolts...the bolts are 8mm as compared to the 9mm from the gsr and type r...the ls bolts will stretch from the higher RPM if they are not changed... this is why it is highly recommended to change these to ARP rod bolts on a ls/vtec...the rest of the bottom end will hold up as long as it is put together correctly...also...the b20 crank is the b18 crank..the extra displacement comes from the 84mm bore as opposed to a 81mm bore
