just swapped to synthetic
hey guys, ive been using part synthetic castrol oil (5W 30) for about 4 oil changes and I just switched over to fully synthetic mobil 1 (5W 30) about a month ago. it seems like every couple of weeks i have to put more oil in. is it normal that synthetic burns up quicker or is it just somethin f'ed up in my car?? no puddles on the ground either. any advice is appreciated, thanks!!

Cars that are 88 and older cannot use synthetic. When I was at training for Valvoline Motor Oil co. they said that the seals in the engines from 88 up can use the synthetic but the older ones cannot due to the chemicals and detergents in the oil, will cause the seals in the older engines to blow out because it will literally eat away at the seals.
Fuck, that was a run on sentence but oh well haha. What year motor/mileage ect.

Re: just swapped to synthetic
It's not uncommon to burn a bit of Mobil1 from what I've heard. There are tons of WRX people who have said the exact same thing. Most of them switched brands and the problem stopped. The speculation seems to be that Mobil1 is one of the lower viscosity synthetics, so it's retention is a little different.
