Internal d16y8 problem NEED HELP!

A lil while back I was driving my car and It hit a huge puddle. The water stalled my car but after I pushed it out of the water I let it sit and finally it came back to life. Ever since there has been a knocking sound in the motor when its running. I am pretty sure the water warped one of my rods and now its bent and the knocking sound im hearing is the rod. I havent been able to drive cus I lost my liscence but I am finally getting it back and I need help. I have no experience replacing internals of a motor neverless A Rod. I need a ballpark of what I will need and what cost might be if either I try and replace it myself or take it to a shop. I live in williamsburg so if anyone knows of a decently priced repair shop that does a timly job then please let me know or what not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

take it to a shop. you will want to replace all the rod/main/thrust bearings and you need to mic out shit and make sure everything is balanced as well as hone the block if the bent rod hasn't notched the bottom of the cylinder. it's a lot of precise work that you aren't gonna want to screw around with.

thanks for the feedback, any clue anyone how much all of that would set me back money wise? for just parts and not labor

all the bearings run like 70 or 80 on ebay, you'd have to find a new rod which you could probably get from someone for cheap unless you go aftermarket. you can get a ring kit for like 50 i believe from www.hondaautomotiveparts.com . the labor will probably run like 600 or so from abacus racing. i just had them build my b16 block, they did a real good job. thats who i would recommend.

damn that is a lot of money. Thanks for the recomondation to abacus i have heard of their work. I was trying to spend like $500 all together. I dont know if putting all this effort it in is worth it. Oh well thats how shit falls.

Would it be cheaper to find a block with internals and swap it out that way rather then buying and installing new rods. Its a D series so its gotta be cheap. I could easily have someone replace a block for less then a $100. and i know a block with internals that runs decent wouldnt cost me a fortune.

my suggestion, buy a used motor, or buy the new parts and ill rebuild it for 100 bucks after machine work has been done,no disrespect against machine shops, but i have seen them really fuck people that have spendt thousands of dollars,so with the passing on of education from my friend scott to me about 2 years ago, i rebuild my own motors and i can do the same for you...or you can have shad at accuracy automotive rebuild it or chris tucker at millenium rebuild it for prolly less than half of what a machine shop would charge you, and these guys no what they are doing, and they have taught me as well....the choice is up to you....

yeah, shops around here charge way to much. Of the moment I have decided to buy a d series block with hopefully nice rods just as zc or maybe LS rods. But forget spending all that extra money. lol I never did a b series swap so i could have a lil extra cash. so i appreciate everyone whos helped me with some advice.

i've got some ls rods that i took out of an automatic with 95k on them. if i'm not mistaken, you have to notch them to fit in a d series though. but if you're interested, let me know. and give tuners edge a call, they might be able to quote you a descent price. it worth a phone call anyway :)

Re: Internal d16y8 problem NEED HELP!

I appreciate it, thing is That i already have a set of LS rods in my garage im just not sure if I want to replace rods or the block. LS rods do have to be machined into a d series and im trying to avoid that if necessary. Seems to be cheaper replacing block then rods and I can actually replace the block myself and then no machine work would be needed.
