Its best to buy the "good stuff" when it comes to any interior dye. I know 5.0resto.com sells quality ford colors(but black should be black), might wanna check into them. In my experience its the lack of prep work that makes most homejobs turn out bad

I used RIT dye mixed in a bowl and then sponged it on for most of my interior. It looked great for about a year, and I mean it looked perfect. But now it's been 3 years and everything is a bit faded from the sun... so I don't recommend this if you want to keep the car for a while.

I've done this three ways;

First: Back in the ricer days, I cleaned the material and used gloss black spray...result = rice

Second: (I've done this on two different interiors) Cleaned the material with rubbing alcohol, used semi flat black NOT semi gloss...result = amazing. After the paint is dried, use Armor All and it looks natural as OEM. Semi Flat can be found at Kmart sometimes (kinda hard to find).

Third: Last weekend, my buddy used actual spray-dye....result = finish was flawless, but it's way too shiny. Looks like gloss spray paint.

Either way, after cleaning material, try to stick some painters tape in various areas. If it sticks, your good to go....If it doesn't stick...keep cleaning.

My advice is the semi flat. It looks OEM, lasts, its cheap, and won't flake.
