Default Interfence motor: build or not to build

Okay, last week my timing belt snapped on my 91 B18 LS engine. I looked it up, after a tip from the dealership that I called, and was told that it is an interference motor.

I looked it up online: click here, very useful
and found out that my car is an interference engine. Now, without even cracking the head open, a guy has offered me $1k for the car. Right now. And its tough as hell to even get parts here to italy so here is my dilemma

Keep the car : attempt to rebuild

Fuck it: sell it to the nutcase and get a beater for the next 9 months.

put a timing belt on it and keep driving it. i know what is supposed to happen when it breaks but that is not always the case. i have replaced one on a 90 teg ls and the car started right up with out any problems. unless you were racing when it broke then everything should be just fine

then again i replaced one on a 91 teg that broke while driving normally, and it bent three valves.

yup i suppose that you have a 50/50 chance. sounds shitty i know. pull the valve cover and check all of the rockers to see if any are very loose like ready to come out. if it were me id just buy a belt and try it to see if it worked. if not then all you have done is spent money on a timing belt and wasted about 2 hours in labor installing it. hell its just a thought. nothing like hearing from the person you sold the car to and having him tell you "man i just put a timing belt on it and i have been driving it for a few weeks"

good luck on your choice

I broke a timing belt on my 94 ls, and nothing was wrong with it. new timing belt, and the car ran great.

Kinda makes the decision easier for you I guess.

Just pull the head and check.

you dont have to pull the head. yank the cams, and do an air test on each cylinder. or use a leakdown tester if you have it.

I don't have either, and believe me its easier to take off the head. 10 nuts and its done.
