Its the difference between possible selling the car, fixing the timing chain and guide(800$) or doing a swap to another KA24de.

If anyone is selling a KA by the way, let me know.
I literally have 3 days to make a decision.

What's that?
Should call the shop and tell him to do a "leak down test"?

Ok, what makes you suspect the valves are bent?

The last time the car was run, it ran badly until it shut off. The mechanic says a tooth is broken and I need a new guide for the timing chain.

He claims there is no way to tell if the valves are bent.

Just because he said that I would go to someone else. Too test you do a leakdonwn test(like someone already said), basically you put the cylinder you want to test at TDC(on compression stroke) and put compressed air into were your spark plug goes. If you hear air escaping out your intake, then those valves are bent, same for exhaust.
