How much to replace MAF?

Friend's car is having issues and he was quoted $400 for a new MAF and another $200 for install, it's a 95 Subaru Legacy, do those prices sound right (roughly)? Also what is the life expectancy on those parts? Would a used one off of ebay be a good purchase or is it better to get a new/reman one. BTW him getting a new MAF at that price would pretty much double the car's worth, since it's a complete piece of shit. Thanks.

I don't know about a legacy, but most maf's take about 10 minutes to install. did he try and clean his off first? (they make special cleaners for them, DO NOT try and wash them yourself.

That's what I was wondering, aren't there two parts to it, there's the entire housing and then there's just the sensor part right?

Yup, they're easy to take apart.

Don't buy a reman, that's the worst thing you could possibly do..
