Put the head on a bench with the valves facing to the side and pour water on each port. If the water comes out the valve seats most likely you have a nice bent valve.

Actually, that's how I've tested a few heads. I used WD40, not water though. A proper seal may drip, but a bent valve will gush out, even if it's bent just a tad.

Recently went with my neighbor so he could get heads for his shit bucket. Guys got pissed when I broke out a can of brake clean and did the same thing. Kept saying the head was good, 2 bent valves later, heads went from 200.00 down to 50.00, took em to the machine shop, had em checked for true, replaced the vlves and hes good to go.
