Horrible Noise SBC 350 start up Please help

I have a 75 350 with comp cams k-kit, holley carb, edel intake, comp timing chain, factory bottom end, comp push rods. Lately when I go to start the car I sometimes get a very loud aggressive (metal on metal sounding) clank/crack. I think cracking sound is the best way to describe it. This noise is now happening more and more often. I feel as though it could possibly be starter teeth? But honestly I have no idea. I was hoping you guys have heard of this before. Its a nasty sound! Also; if I let off key and keep trying until I get no noise the car will start. Once started I dont get any clacking/cracking.

I would suspect that the starter or flywheel teeth are getting chewed, or that the starter pinion solenoid is failing and not engaging the starter properly. This could also be the cause of the mangled teeth.

Is this a new starter or flywheel? You might be dealing with a poorly made part, or it might be as simple as needing to shim the starter. Reman or poor quality replacement starters can sound pretty ugly sometimes.
