hondas sohc is just 2 camshafts driven by 1 cam gear?
help me out.....is that true |
Re: hondas sohc is just 2 camshafts driven by 1 cam gear?
uhh no. Single over head cam means exactly that, ONE overhead cam. There can only be one cam gear per cam.
a good idea would be to read this whole entire article: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/engine.htm |

Ya a lot of SOHC engines use to camshafts but only on gear. So which you said about on camshaft per gear is wrong.

So a lot of single cam engines use two cams? Doesn't that mean they aren't single cam engines? I better go count the number of driven wheels on my WRX to make sure there aren't a few extra ones that no one told me about. I'll go check to see if they're telling the truth about the number of valves per cylinder too..
Ok, try this. If I take a quarter out of my pocket, and put it in your hand, how many quarters do you have? (Hint: not two.) |

Re: hondas sohc is just 2 camshafts driven by 1 cam gear?
Some SOHC engines have one cam gear and on the camshaft there is a gear further inside the valve cover that hooks upto another cam. It is more efficient to have to seperate camshafts and two seperate gears which is why it isn't a true DOHC. Regardless of what others say i see these engines all the time, take a look at some SOHC's u will see what I mean.
