honda: rpms
1992 honda civic lx:
i know this happens with a lot of cars, but when i cut my ac on, my rpms drop by at least 200, and i noticed today when i cut on my headlights, it drops another 200...if i have them both on at once, my car almost stalls...any ideas? |
well the AC is running off the belt, so its tugging on the engine when you turn it on, so basically its parasitic... you probably knew that but i cant figure out a legit reason why that would make your car almost stall, and for the lights it sounds like your alternator might be going bad... whats the milage on this bad boy?

just hit 133,000
|
Usually when ac is activated though, it signals the ecu to idle higher.
|
not enough horsepower to spin ac belt....car dieing...ack
|
Every four cylinder car I've ever owned had significant power loss with the AC on.
On a side note, if you haven't replaced your alternator within your 133K miles, you may need to do so soon. They're not hard to replace on Hondas. |
