any suggestions on how to fix this without having to replace the tank?

If there is a hole, get a self tapping screw with a rubber grommet on it a tad bigger than the hole. They use these to fasten aluminum\steel panels to the roof and sides of buildings.

depending on the size try to get someone who is good a brazeing to do it for you

ya self tapping srew and but some kind of sealnt around that that gas wont eat away just for saftey
