help with autometer oil pressure gauge
ive got one wire going to the sender, one to a ground(hooked up to cdplayer ground is this ok?), and the other to 12v switched source(cd player). the gauge comes on but reads +100 psi. its the pro-comp ultra-lite gauge. i mounted the sender on the firewall and ran a very small plastic tubing(found in sunpro oil pressure gauge kit) from the block fitting to the sender. i dont understand what i did wrong unless i cant use that tubing for the sender?any help?

Re: help with autometer oil pressure gauge
I'm guessing that 100PSI is the max that the gauge can show...?
Unhook the sender and see what happens. Obviously the gauge should show 0PSI with the engine off regardless of the type of fitting, tubing, or whatever else is connected to the sender port.
On a 3-wire gauge like that, there are very few things that can go wrong, so you might have a bad ground or just made some simple mistake like crimped a wire terminal onto the insulation of the wire instead of the the conductor of the wire.

Or you're using a sender that isn't compatible with the gauge, which is a possibility if you're not using the sender that came with the gauge.

Re: help with autometer oil pressure gauge
im using the sender that came with the gauge. i disconnected the sender from the gauge and it dropped to zero. and yes it is going past the max of 100psi on the gauge. what would be the best ground location for the sender it says in the instructions if mounted on the firewall to run a wire to an engine ground.i will double check everything tomorrow

Re: help with autometer oil pressure gauge
Take the gauge and the sender out of the car, hook everything up directly to your battery (it's just temporary) and see what happens. It's probably a wiring problem, or there is something wrong with the CD player ground. Really though, it's a simple gauge so it should be easy to troubleshoot. There isn't much to go wrong.

Re: help with autometer oil pressure gauge
the plastic tubing is to locate the sender away from engine vibrations. Just curious do you know what your Oil Pressure Should be running at?
