HELP 92 lexus ls400 will not accelerate
i have a 92 lexus ls400, it wil not accelerate past 45. exhaust and cats turn bright red if you run
the engine at 2500 rpm for any length of time. system had lean codes but they are gone now. i
have replaced fuel pump about a year ago, just replaced the fuel filter again, mas air flow
( because it failed all tests), replaced spark plugs with original ngk, and converters are new.
please help. and no smartasses please just general advise or maybe someone that has had this
problem before.
thanks

Re: HELP 92 lexus ls400 will not accelerate
i know when you cats get clog or go bad it gives these symptoms or just wont let your car rev or start sometime but im not a lexus guy. sound like something in your exhaust is cloged up and not exiting the car properly if you exhaust starts to glow . not good . now when your exhaust starts to glow red does your car start to over heat or no ?

Sounds like you still have a lean condition or some heavy ignition retard. That will make your exhaust gas temp come way up. Does it feel like you're seriously down on power output, or just that it won't go over 45?

Re: HELP 92 lexus ls400 will not accelerate
i know the exhaust isnt clogged the cats are new and it has flow,
it feels like the car has no power like its being held back i mean if i floored it long enough i might could get over 45 it just would take a long time. i dont think its a trans problem and i agree it sounds like a lean condition just doesn't make sense cuz it runs faily smooth and doesnt sound like its missing.

Re: HELP 92 lexus ls400 will not accelerate
The engine can run perfectly smooth with a partially coil, it just won't have the spark energy it needs to make rated power. Basically as long as the spark energy is consistent and the breakdown voltage is high enough to ignite the air/fuel mixture, it won't necessarily run rough or misfire or anything like that.
That is weird though, just because coils don't usually fail like that. They can, they just usually don't. Glad you found and fixed the problem.
