Default h22 Problem. Need Help

i took my car to a shop to change a timing belt and when i did they said that when the pulled the valve cover off, they noticed there was water and coolant in my spark plug holes and in the head. I thought maybe i needed to change the head gasket but they said that wouldnt help.
Does Anyone Know What could be the problem?

let me add that the motor was not in the car running. The motor had been sitting outside for about 3 months.i towed the car to the shop with the motor just bolted in.

Are you sure it was coolant and not just rain water from sitting outside?

Was the engine sitting on its side? I'm having a hard time figuring out how coolant in an engine that isn't running can make it up into the plug wells, etc.

It can't, even with a bad headgasket, if it wasn't run, there's no way. Realistically anyways.

Moneys on rain water boss.

No damage if you drain it before you start the motor.

I would check to make sure rust hasn't started to develop in certain places that they could occur i.e; worn steel components. Most of the motor is aluminum but things like the cam lobes can rust. Might not be an issue if it hasn't sat too long but definitely worth double checking.
