Default H22 burining alot of oil

I got a 99 Prelude with 140k on the clock. It burns ALOT of oil, its at maybe 1 quart every 500 miles. Any ideas? No actual leaks from sitting. I did hear someone once say that he saw alot of smoke coming out, when I passed him. But then again he was a ricer that looked pissed cuz he tried to race me and lost...lol. Ive asked my friends, and they said they havent seen any smoke. What do you guys think? Any ideas?
Thanks guys!

Welcome to FRM sleeves most likely the culprit. Damn nice/strong sleeves, but rips the hell out of piston rings.

The good thing is, even with 140k miles is that the hone on the sleeves is probably still in place enough to simply replace the piston rings and go about your business. Got my 3rd gen cheap due to this (craigslist seller didnt have a clue), replaced the rings without having to do a hone and 30k miles later, still nice and strong.

Downside is trying to place forged pistons in it without resleeving to iron ductile sleeves and/or not using something like Mahle pistons with their special side skirt coating.
