G23 Build??
A friend of mine asked me to build a motor for him a few months ago, a G23 he called it. I hadn't heard of it before this mainly cause I mess with Sr20s and B Series mostly. The only information he really had was a single writeup from an online source. Couldnt say no because I was curious of the results and he had delivered every piece and part that was called for in the writeup(or so we thought). The shortblock was cake, we used an F23 block(this is going in 98 CL). Had it hot tanked, checked and honed. Kept the F rods and installed K20s pistons with all new rings and bearings. As far as the head we used a H22A1 from a 91 prelude. In the writeup it called for blocking off two of the oil returns on the head as the f block has 6 and the head has 8. Tapped the extra holes in the head and put plugs with high temp thread sealer, decided to go that route cause I didnt want to run a bolt in the head and try to grind the head off. Long story short we got the motor together, it started up first try and we thought all was going to be good. Later we started noticing oil coming from the timing belt side of the engine, front and back between head and the block. At first I thought it was oil getting past the two plugs I had put in originally. After pulling the head off I pulled the plugs out and saw a small amount of oil on the threads of the rear plug but none on the front. It is not the cam seals or valve cover gasket and just for good measure I filled i the wholes with jb weld. Here are some pictures of the build. If anyone has done this swap before let me know anything that we are missing cause we followed the write up to the T with some things done better. Thanks for the help.

ive heard of these before and they are notorious for this problem. theres a thread somewhere on honda-tech about these setups, which a google search will bring up, but it has something to do plugging a couple of holes and drilling another in the head gasket, or something along those lines. search homo-tech for the answer. its there

Not really related, but I hate when people make up stupid names for engines that didn't ever exist. WTF is a G23? It's part F, and part H, so it's now a G?
