You don't need 4X4 to lift a truck.

Most people I know with 38' mud boggers don't even use their 4 wheel.

Just different styles I guess, but I don't think trucks were made to drag the ground.

Trucks werent made to be lifted or lowered actually. I think if they were inteded to be one or the other, they would be made that way from the factory.

If you have a 2WD and you want to lift it, you gotta do it prerunner style for it to be cool IMO. So you arent posing as a 4x4

I still say lower it if its 2WD and lift it if its 4x4 though.

Well trucks are significantly higher than cars?

Why is that?

For ground clearance in "work zones" and to have suspension travel with a heavy load in it.

At least that was the concept when they first started making trucks.

First mods to the truck should be exhaust and intake. Since your truck is supercharged the gains from these two items will be higher then the gains found when these two items are installed on N/A cars. Then tint the windows if they aren't already tinted, followed by getting a spray-on bedliner. After this is done, this is where your suspension comes into play. If its a 4x4 and its an extended cab short bed truck (or regular cab long bed truck) give a truck a suspension lift so that it is high enough to allow 33 inch tires to be put in the wheelwells while still giving the suspension enough room to flex. If its extended cab long bed, lift it up to accommodate 35 inch tires. If its regular cab short bed, then leave it stock height as it probably already has 31 inch tires on there.

If you go any taller on the lift/tires, then you start decreasing the challenge once you take your truck off road. If there is no challenge, it is no fun. For most off-roading situations in a mid-sized truck, with skill you should be able to get thru it alright with the setups I have mentioned.

If the truck is two wheel drive, then swap out the tires and rims and throw a combo in there that has a tire setup for a 45 sidewall. Make sure you get a tire w/ this sidewall that was built to handle the weight of a truck. I would avoid chrome rims. After this is done, drop the truck 2 inches, or go w/ an airbag setup, whichever one you like better. Throw a tonneau cover over your bed painted to match the truck as well.

Ah, so lowering trucks increases the ground clearance.

I think I'm getting it now.
