Engine choices

I just have a quick question to anyone who can help.
Car- 1995 honda civic dx 5 speed

I have a choice between 2 motors right now and the current one I have is a 1.5 d15b7 which is crap lol and I want to swap and do as little work as possible. The choices for motors are a ZC double non vtec 130hp or a ZC Single Vtec 130hp both have under 30k miles. Which will be the easiest to install and fit perfectly into my car without changing out the entire world just to make it run.

After this I will be looking to have someone install it within 2 1/2 weeks.

Let me know thank you
Kali

Re: Engine choices

LoL someone else just said that same thing to me I was only goin by what the guy on the phone was saying. So now I am not even sure what he meant by single. Im guessing single overhead cam and the other one that was non vtec was a dual overhead cam. I will find out monday when I call back to see if they have any B16a someone told me to check for that first.

Re: Engine choices

they do make a zc vtec.. i didn't believe it either until i say it.. i would go with a single vtec all day over a zc mind the name it was just funny at the time... all you would need is a p28 ecu or a msd rpm activated swith.. i would do the ecu.. and all you have to do is wire in the vtec... it is easy as shit on that car...i have done that swap like six or seven times... if i was you i would put a b18 in it.. i can also get you a d15b.. it is a single cam 1.5 vtec motor... it sounds like ass but i had one in my first crx.. it moved... it also has 130 hp.... and i can get it jdm for 450 or maybe alittle less.. i can get shit pretty cheap.. if you need a motor pm me with what you want and i can see what kind of price i can get it for.....

Re: Engine choices

Someone told me that the d15b7 which I currently have is no better than a ZC vtec so now im confused lol. I called a place in cali they said it would be $2400 for the complete swap of a b16a that included tranny ecu motor ect but, they are not sure how fast they can find all the pieces to be able to ship it here to their other wharehouse. So now im sorta stuck on what should I do... I want more power this engine is very slugish from 2nd-3rd for some reason.

i used to have a zc dohc b16 s will start to pull on you in 3rd though . they are worth the little bit that they cost . I got mine for 750$ for everthing except axles

Re: Engine choices

if you have to choose outta the dual cam zc or a jdm single cam, get the single cam, like someone stated above there is a much broader aftermarket for the single cam, i have driven both and would choose the single anyway, but if you can save some more and get a b16

HiRevin17 09-06-2004 06:21 PM

Re: Engine choices

also you could get a LS swap for a little more than the single or zc but still be less than the b16, this might be the best option for you

Re: Engine choices

and your car will be faster with the ls swap....... i would go with the ls...... shit even better, go gsr...... custom car car was doing the swap for 3800 that is everything..... including install

Hey , get the sohc vtec ..... then down the road spend $1400 and get a brand new greddy 15g turbo kit , you will have less money in it and you will spank a swaped stock b series coupe or hatch , if you can drive decent. Get the single cam , it wont dissapoint you if your used to driving that 90 whp crap ass motor.

Single cam ZC is poo, at least that's what I have heard from people I have talked to. The DOHC ZC is quik on the bottle. Friend of mine had one in a EF hatch.. needless to say I stomped a Spyder on the interstate with ease.. then sprayed.

anything is quick on the bottle, ive seen the jdm single pull a dohc zc a few times, the dohc zc is the most disapionting honda motor ive driven

Re: Engine choices

This was a Spyder, no spray until I had a lead.. then I made him cry. Higher compression with cams make it a nice motor (inexpensive). So bang for the buck ZC DOHC is good for small build. If you actually want some thing monsterous get a H22.

why spend the money for cams and pistons in a dohc zc? if your gonna spend the money on that stuff get a better motor, still the best bag for the buck would to go out and get a used LS swap

i agree 100%, i would never build a zc. save for an ls swap.
