Default electrical question (TailLights)

hey in my bros 1990 240sx the tail lights arent working along with the lights in the dash now we checked the fuse and its was burned up we replaced it and it burned up as soon as we turned the lights on! what could this be from? we thought maybe the wrong size fuse was in there which was a 15 in there so we tried 30 and 10 each burned up the same! can anybody help?

you probably have a short somewhere. use a test light to see if you definatly have a short. give one side of the light 12v power and put the other end of the light at the side of the fuse that doesn't provide power (with the fuse removed of course) if the light comes on you have a short. trace the wire to see if it is touching any of the chasis. also don't use bigger fuses, only use the factory recommended fuse. you'll end up destroying something more expensive than a fuse if you keep upping the fuse amperage. HTH

Fuses are there for a reason, track down the short before you start a fire..
