If you read some of the Turbo and Superstreet Magazine, lots of peeps uses B16A2 Head for their LS and B20 Block. Of course the block would have to be bored out for the head.

the itr head is just a ported b16 head...they are identical...the gsr head does not flow as much as a b16 head but the gsr head gives higher compression...it is said that the b16 head flows as much as 15% more flow than a gsr head...the b16 head is also cheaper..this is why most people go with a b16 head...HTH

1. the block doesnt need to be bored out. and even if you're using a b20 block, the head doesnt need to have the combustion chambers modified either.

2. the b16 head and b18c5 heads are from the same cast, they are practically the same except for the ITR is mildly ported. If you throw ITR cams, valves, springs, and retainers in a b16 head and polish the runners yourself, you'll basically have an ITR head. the only real reason to use the GSR head is if you have one lying around or can get it cheap.

3. just incase you were going to try to reuse your headbolts, you'll need vtec head bolts so you may as well go with the arp studs while you're already ordering their 8mm rod bolts

Ok you can use a B16 head with no problems. IMO save your money and get a B16 head and then port it.

Now in terms of opening the chamber in the B16 head or any VTEC head for a ls the is no need. All b-Series blocks (except for the B20) are bore to 81mm, and the head will match that no problem.

Head bolts use GSR/Type R head studs since the block height is taller than the B16 block.
