Unhappy Eclipse RS - blown motor, options?

g/f's '98 RS just toasted the #3 cyl... shop says its easier to just get a used motor for $1500-2500

couldnt i get a good turbo motor for that? what else would i need for the swap? is it worth it or should i just dish out the cash for another n/a pos motor and sell it.

To drop a turbo motor in an RS you would need a whole front clip. Nothing in the NA eclipses ,unless you have the 4g64, which you don't, would be the same. It would be much better to just get a new RS motor and sell it.

if your going to get a motor i would go with one of these from howell auto awsome motors and they come fully built with forged internals

yeah i just looked though... the 4g63 faces the other way (tranny on the left) so yeah that would be a bitch.

the crate motor looks like a nice setup, $1,900 is right in the middle but that 2.2 stroker with 8.6:1 compression so i could add a turbo sounds sezy.... but not what i want to get into with this car.

Thanks for the help guys

4G63T Swaps have been done but it's a lot of work. You'd need motor, tranny, ecu, downpipe and basically everything else that the motor does not come with (i.e. manifold, turbo, etc...) Depends on what the motor is coming with. You're looking about 3k+/- to do the swap. better off to put a new 420a in it and sell the car if you want a turbo model.

buy a 2.4 stratus motor put your head on it and have fun n/a

raises the displacement from the 2.4 block.
the 2.0 head raises the compression.

Not sure of how much this is what I have been told. But, I do know it works.

The 2.4L Stratus block works with the 420A head? I had no clue about that...

yeah i've been reading the 2gnt forums and theres quite a few options.. i only wish i had the time to do something more fun like rods/pistons/turbo etc... some dudes putting down like 450whp from a turbo'ed 420a

at this point i'd almost want to buy a short block.. get the car running again and start a motor project
