Dodge Neon Issuses
we got it with an broke timing belt
Got new tensioner and belt realigned timing Ran rough as shit...Ok..
Threw the compression tester on it
cycl 1. 195
cycl 2. 195
cycl 3. 25
cycl 4. 30
That cant be right..we pulled the head...no burnt or bent valves...no internal damage no cracked block nothing....but the head gasket looks fine...
I heard two stories so far one saying to check for bad rings one saying to check for leakdown between two pistons (blown gasket)
Any ideas??
Any helpers

Re: Dodge Neon Issuses
do you have access to a leakdown tester?that will answer all your questions.
those two cylinders sound too low to be bad rings.is that an interference engine?if so,i'd bet slightly bent valves.
inspecting the head gasket and mating surfaces closely should reveal if there was a problem there.

Re: Dodge Neon Issuses
It's a Neon. Both the DOHC and SOHC varieties are designed non-interference. It's why the SOHC has 9.8, and the DOHC only has 9.2 for compression.
This does not mean that there could not be a combination of factors.
Yes, it's a possibility, especially if you didn't use the required "gasket spray" from Mopar, that it's leaking past the head gasket. Also, you make no mention of the mileage, which I'd assume to be near 150K. That means, the valves are leaking from normal wear and tear. And, with that low a compression # on the 2 cylinders, I'd be looking for broken ring lands, as that is a common problem. Or, it was possibly run hot, and the rings have lost the ability to seal.

Re: Dodge Neon Issuses
If you're sure the valves are sealing, the head gasket is installed properly, and that everything is good as far as the pistons themselves are concerned, then I'd say it was run hot when the previous gasket blew, and that the rings on those cylinders aren't sealing to the walls.
You can TRY to put some oil in the 2 cylinders, and rev the piss out of it as soon as it's warmed up, to attempt to re-seat them to some extent. Odds are, although it may help, the rings have been heated to a point of losing their tension...
