Crate engine help...domestic people?
Hey,
Ive got a street 1989 mustang with 130k miles on it and its time to get a new motor. I dont feel like building an engine for this one, I just want to buy one already built with a decent a mount of horsepower. Do you guys know/suggest any company that builds efi Crate engines that are good and not too terribly expensive that will give me some power.
thanks

Never bought one, but if I was going to get one, I would go with a GT-40 crate engine(seems more reliable to me), then again I'm sure for a little extra you could get a more powerful one like from D.S.S.

I won't advertise the shop here. But I have been an engine builder for 40 years.. My suggestion would be, If you came to me, for about the same money..
I would build you a stroker with aluminum heads that would have torque and horsepower ratings that would make the crate engines green with envy..
I'm not knocking crate engines,, they are great motors.. But cookie cutter motors..

As mentioned before the GT-40 Ford Motorsports crate motor isn't bad. DSS 331 stroker looked good on paper. But when it comes to ford SB, I would go with somebody like the last poster that can build you something to suit your needs. If you plan on using a power adder ever, I definitely would steer clear of crate motors.
