Cost/where to get some heads redone?

I have a 2000 GMC Sierra 4x4, 4.8L V8, 320k miles. This thing smokes like a chimney when you start it which leads me to believe it's time for some head work.

Anyone know the approximate cost to get all new valvetrain and heads completely redone and who locally does it?

Here, have some reading material. It has nothing to do with local shops.

If that doesn't make you want to buy some ported heads (or get yours ported), you're beyond help. :D

Ha, I've had that link saved on my phone for weeks. It would be nice but right now I'm just trying to keep the truck going for another few months.

New head bolts, new top end gaskets and you;re good to go. If you change everything out on your own, you're looking at right around $500 for everything.

If you CANT install them, I can do it for cheaper than any other shop out there, and it will take me half the time. PM me if interested.

Oh wow. That is cheap, and yes I can definately put them on myself. Thanks for the link.

I didn't see a clear answer anywhere, what are they using for valves and springs? Are they reusing stock parts from core returns or using OEM-compatible replacements?
