i looked at my vin code and instead of ef it says ed, i am confused i thought the 88-91 civics were efs. please no smart ass remarks just a bit of a newb trying to learn

i knwo it varies on hatch and coupe later on. idk if it varies for hatch and sedan at that time

When Honda people call cars by their chassis codes they generally use the Japanese-market chassis codes for whatever reason.

No US-market '88-'91 Civics actually had an EF chassis code.

o ok thank you for clearing that up for me, but i also have one more question. i see people saying they have an ef8 or an ef9 whats with the number?

Short answer: Don't pay any attention to those idiots.

Long answer: They probably went to the trouble to look up the chassis code in Japan for whatever motor swap they have.

The number could indicate an engine, trim package, or bodystyle. You've got a number after ED, too.
