Computer help (misfits brother)
Hello..here's the story.
I received my 700w power supply and EVGA Geforce 9800 GTX+ today. I hardware installed both without issue. I then installed the software for my video card and was asked to reboot..so I did. When I rebooted, I had all the new display features and all that..but I had no connection to the internet. So, I plugged up my cord..ha. But that didn't solve the problem.
My network connection had now changed to "Nvidia nForce networking controller." It read: Status: Connected and 100 mbps. But, I can't connect to the internet. I've tried Mozilla Firefox and Internet explorer. The computer in my other room is connecting just fine.
I've called tech support 4 times for the card and they have no idea. They said I shouldn't have even gotten ethernet drivers with a video card. To add to the problem, whenever I uninstall all the Nvidia drivers and reboot, the connection goes back to "Nvidia nForce networking controller."
I really don't know where to go from here..please help?

whats your local ip address when your connected? Why not just uninstall the drivers for that network adapter from the device manager, and install the correct network adapter driver?

Have you tried to rollback the driver? Does it identify the network hardware properly even though it is using the NVidia drivers? That's a really bizarre thing to happen, I can't say I've ever heard of that before..

What motherboard do you have? If it is NVIDIA based then the nForce network controller is what it should be.
If networking worked before you might want to do a System Restore to a date before you installed the drivers and try getting the video card drivers from NVIDIA instead of EVGA and use that instead.

Well, last night I system restored back to an earlier date and got my internet back. So I went to the Nvidia website and searched for my 9800 GTX+ drivers and downloaded them and bam..when I rebooted I got nvidia nforce networking controller. And no, I do not have a nvidia motherboard.

NVIDIA themselves doesn't make motherboards, but they do make chipsets for them.
What's the make and model of your motherboard? Also what OS are you running? XP 32-bit I'd presume?
