Question CEL......code 15

got a 90 EF with B16A swap and PW0 ecu. started acting up last week by running rough and eventually cutting off. now it will not start at all. got a CEL for code 15, Ignition Output Signal. checked my wiring and all is good. the dist has external coil and is also good. checked ignitor and it tested fine. swapped distributors and still have same problem. also have changed plugs and wires off of working engines. Could it be the ECU? Any advice would be appreciated!

tried that. if its unplugged it should put the ecu into default mode and still run. but it doesnt. i also tested the tps and map with a meter. and all is well. something tells me its the ecu.

Only way to test if it is the ECU is to try another. Does the ECU light flash once when you turn the key to the 1st position?

Have you actually looked at the spark? Pull plugs and lay them on the valve cover and crank. A weak yellow spark and it still will not be enough to start.

Getting gas to the injectors?. When you pull the plugs you can smell for gas in the combustion chamber.

Is the rotor screw in place? I had one fall off in a d16 and it still ran for about a month (rough and hunting idle, pinging on hard throttle) until it just died on the hwy and stopped starting completely. ECU codes 1, 15, 16 would come and go.

When you say you checked the wiring, what does that mean? Did you do a continuity check with a multimeter between the ECU connector and wherever that wiring goes to?

Given the 20 year old age of the ECU, it could be something as simple as a fatigued solder joint on the ECU connector where it meets the ECU circuit board.

Yep, sure did. continuity test is ok now. i did find a weak solder connection on the vtec wire at the ecu. fixed that. but still have the same code. 1 long flash, 5 fast flashes. the only thing i have not done yet is test the actuall ecu connector inside the ecu. but i will do that this weekend. thanks for the input.

So you see spark and the motor turns over?

Is the timing belt turning with the crank and the cams?

How many OHMS on the coil?
