building torque?
ok so i have a 2000 civic si and i want more torque. i intend to boost at ome point. so here is what i am thinking, i want t go b20 block and b16 head. but how much torque does that add? and what kind of problems might i encounter in doing that type of set up?
next i was just thinking of getting my block bored out. im loking for a little guidence and advice... |
Re: building torque?
Seriously. Search.
If you want more torque, get rid of the honda. What do you want torque wise though? If your planning on staying all motor for a bit. Get a stock gs-r bottom end, and throw your stock head on it. I'd stay away from B20/vtec, or Ls/vtec; esp. if money is a issue. |
Re: building torque?
if you want torque get a v8.

Re: building torque?
hate to say it but everybody's right, hondas are known for being real torqueless unless you boost the hell out of it but you still aint going to do that with a b16

Re: building torque?
True, true. Honda's are torqueless, but it's funny how cars still lose to them :D

Re: building torque?
nitrous oxide=torque in a bottle :D
|
Re: building torque?
No matter what you do with a Honda engine, it'll never have any torque. Built it, boost it, whatever. You'll have 600hp but only still like 200ft/lb of torque.
If you want torque, get a bike. :p |
Re: building torque?
You can get plenty of torque from a Honda engine. Any more than the chassis can handle is more than you need.

Re: building torque?
some guy sells torque on ebay. $50 for 10 ft/lb
|
Re: building torque?
i've got 117 ft-lbs at the wheels baby!!
 |
Re: building torque?
The bottle is for babies
Boost that b16  stock with a GOOD TUNE can be very fun.. Spanking those "torque-monsters" with a little Honda Civic with the "torque-less wonder" = Priceless (ask Yell88CRXsi) As for your CRVTEC build - LS/B20 crank + b18c1 block + b16 head  $0.02 |

If you plan to turbocharge the car at some point and continue to drive it on the street, my opinion is keep the engine at 1.6L of displacement. |

Re: building torque?
I din't say that he "needed" to keep it at that displacement. I only stated that if it were me that I would keep it a 1.6L.
The reason I would choose to keep the engine displacement low is the fact that it will produce enough torque for the street without overpowering the chassis. In my opinion high torque isn't needed in street driven Hondas. |
Re: building torque?
stroke it.

Re: building torque?
Stroking the motor with such a short deck height is a bad idea. You would only be building a time bomb.
