Hmm the really endless amounts of info that can be shared with you. It depends on your budget and whether you want to go forced induction or naturally aspirated.

But this should help, either way i suggest going with atleast a 1.8 liter.

okay...
B16 (A and B): 1999-2000 civic si's and 1988-1991 crx siR (has vtec)
B18: came in the acura integra LS, has some good torque at low rpms... the base for an lsvtec build...
B18C1: the integra gsr engine, has vtec, very good motor...
B18C5: jdm b18c engine... my friend has one in his EK, around 170whp i think... and about 130 torque? a very strong engine...

B20B and B20Z: both came in the honda cr-v's... most torque of any honda engine.... B20/vtec involves dropping a itr or ctr or gsr head on it for added vtec... only downside is this motor, along with the ls (B18) dont like high revving... which is what the itr (integra typeR) and ctr (civic typeR) and gsr are known for...

thats a summary of what i kind of know about the engines... im getting there, but still have a ways to go...

try just googling each engine you want to know about and looking at the specs (i.e. rod length, stroke, bore) to give you a sense of each engine and what their potentials are...

there is nothing wrong with the crvtec or the ls vtec. but some people just slap them two together and think they can rev like a normal vtec. but the ls and crv cranks are not balanced like the vtecs are. so if you want to spin high rpms then get the crank neutral balanced and have the intake side of the piston shaved a little more than normal and you can spin any rpms you want. well nothing like 10,000 but it has been done. if you are interested in ls vtecs and crvtec then really do research before relying on others to tell you what they did. lsvtec and crvtec is the best of both worlds and i mean power and price.

b20z is rated at 133 ftlbs @ 4500 rpms and the c32b has the mos torque at 224 ftlbs @ 5400 rpm thats the 2002 + nsx engines

the b18c5 DOES NOT HAVE 170 FTLBS OF TORQUE WTF RU TALKING ABOUT? the jdm b18c5 is "RATED" @ 195 HP & 130 FTLBS OF TORQUE but thats just the rating but put that on the dyno and I promise you wont see that at the wheels.

Also you can build your ls vtec to rev higher and for the b2vtec and ls vtec you can use the b16 head doesn't just have to be itr or ctr. Its more involved than just slapping the head up there as someone already stated. You have to build it right. The poor mans type r is also a beast when made right and tuned right I beat muscle cars all day long with one before.

if you really want to make a high reving motor then take the crank of a b16, slap it into a b20. arp bolts and crank girdle. good oil pump. and then make sure that your valve spring are rated at least 12,000 rpms with titanium retainers then set your rev limiter to 10,500. that would be cool to see.
