Default b17 vs b16 info?

OK I am just curious about this because...... well I will explain.

Which head is better, the b16 head or the b17 head? Also what is the difference between the 2. I know they have the same casing as the b16 and the type r but what about the internals?

I really don't know too much about the b17 motor and I don't think there is too much difference between that and the b16 but I want to make sure.

I am going to be building a b17 just for shits and giggles and I want to know what I can use from a b16 (aftermarket wise)? Also what is the cylinder size of a b17. I tried to google it and I did a search for this info and found nothing.

I know that a lot of people trash the motor and just use a b16, why displacement still pays off in the long run!

DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT A B17!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK I am looking for more nkowledgable replise here I know what the motor comes in, in the states, I know that its obd1 I know the semple things I would just like to know more about it's details.

Thanks for your time.

Ok the only think that I have been able to find out is that the blocks are the same. The only difference is that the b17 has a different crank/rods/piston which lower the compression to 9.3to1. I also found out that they are both the same bore. The parts for the 2 can be used in eachother.

Is this correct?

As far as I know the b17 is basically a stroked b16. Both have the same deck height, but the b16 has shorter rods and has a different stroke. Also I think the only aftermarket rods for a b17 are crowers, but that was a few years back they might have some now.

AH NO SHIT! Good deal. I then should assume that they have the same internals?

Reason I ask is because I am about to pick up a gsr DA and I am going to build another or man type r and I don't know if I should just throw out the b17 and go with a b18, which from the information I have found out I will be doing that, or keep the b17 block.

I also wasn't sure if I could use the head. or if it would be better than the b16.

Yup the have the same combustion chamber, ex ports, in. ports, intake man. bolt pattern. Only differences are the cranks and rods.

only things i really know is that the b17 has dual valve springs , little low CR (rated at 9.5:1),
81.40mm crank and P61 rods , tranny is slightly more aggressice than the b16

Nice! So they would hold higher rpms then the b16 head?

correct, but if you have a b16 you might as well switch out to itr or better valve springs

IMO the b17 motor is an ideal motor for stock turbo
