Default B13 tachometer Issues

I have a friend with a B13 Sentra SR20DE, and his tach is reading approximately 1000 RPMs higher than normal at all RPMs. Has anyone run into this issue before. Perhaps a faulty sending unit, or does it read directly from coil charge or ignition module. Perhaps a faulty tach? If anyone has any thoughts, please post. Thanks.

I have not messed with the tach at all. With my old engine that blew it was acting up about 500 miles before the engine blew... Now with my new sr20 its still having the same problems... No clue why PLease help me so I dont have to spend the money on a new tachometer.

We're talking about a stock tach here, and how in the hell did you blow an SR?

The tach reference comes from the negative side of the coil (blk\grn IIRC). Is the engine rpm actually hunting or is it just the tach?

Sidenote: The stock tachs are usually off by about 150-200 rpm and gets worse the higher it goes. Also, what was the cause of your motor blowing?
