Default Audi TT 1.8L help..

hey guys,
I am in the process of looking for a 1.8L AudiTT (00' - 04') and was wondering if a few of the VW, and Audi guys can help with a few questions.

1. the gas gauge. Is there a fix to this yet?
2. Do the the gears/sink-rose* normally "click" or sound like they are slightly "rubbing" when being put into first gear from a complete stop?
3. What maintenance issues should I make sure have been preformed and addressed? Also, any issues with this engine? (my GST blew 3 motors, so dont want to make the same mistake)

Mods wise, I am just curious for a link to a moderately priced chip and intake solution to give it a little more grunt. Also, I love the BOV sound (previous two imports were a Supra and GST). What is the nicest loudest BOV for this engine? (my verison of rice).

thanks guys for all the help and look forward to hearing from you.

1. yup, they replace it.
2. Yup, I have yet to have one not do it.
3. turbos go out on them, keep up regular maintence, are you getting the 225 pakage or just the 180? and for the BOV sound... its not common that I saw them on the car, they have a deverter valve and I kept hearing that getting rid of it is a pain in the ass.

I used to work for Audi for 3 years so... Im just throwing in my .02

What are you talking about with the DV being a pain? They are easy to replace.

If you want to get extra grunt out a 1.8t, buy a GIAC xchip, a downpipe/exhuast and a GHL intake (or K&N panel in a gutted box).

Also, which model do you plan on buying? If I were you, I'd look at a 2001+ 225hp model. They have a good awd system that can withstand a beating and the motors are very robust.

Thanks for the responses guys..

(2.) will this eventually need to replaced? And what is the cause of it?

How many miles do the turbos normally last? If they are easy to replace (just a few tools and a lift) i'll do it with the exhaust system overhaul.

They are expensive to replace (factory wise) so you're not going to want to do it when you do the exhuast.

I've seen turbos go out before the warranty expired and I've seen some last over 100k miles. Maintaince (oil changes and such) are important to a turbos life.

the most important maitenance item is the timing belt. This is also very expensive because the shops have to take off the whole front of the car. Parts are about $300 and the labor is $350 for a dealer tech on the side $600-800 at AutoHaus and who knows how expensive at the dealer.

www.ecstuning.com great site, easy to navigate, poke around you'll find stuff you wanna do

i second the vote for the giac xchip probably one of the best chips on the market argueably.... I/E and DP great mods as the exhaust is restrictive as shit

as far as a bov goes they're cake, but you wont want to run venting to atmosphere, these cars have so many failsafes it will notice..... with the intake, and a good diverter valve.... (forge 007, etc.) you'll hear the *swoosh* you want..... or if you're feeling kinky flip the 007 upside down and aroudn and you'll get a diff kinda sound, hard to explain.......

and if you haven't already gone www.vwvortex.com
